Suzie Z. began her modelling and acting career in New York’s heady East Villageart scene. Modelling for many 1980’s up and coming Fashion Designer’s , she walked the runway and was the first muse of designer Isabel Toledo. She was photographed many times by Bill Cunningham, who like Suzie was zipping from one fabulous event to another. Appearing in many fashion shows, she became known as the model with the Super 8, and filmed as she went down the runway.
Suzie Z .considered her modelling as performance art and acting and appeared on MTV in Andy Warhol’s “15 minutes “ TV show, as well as many productions signing back up for Joey Arias and performing in many New York downtown musicals. She also worked with many other downtown stars at Fiorucci dancing in the windows and became a writer and model for PaperMagazine, winning the Vogueing Love Ball twice with Brooke Shields and theB52’s, among others on her team.
Suzie Z. studied at Stella Adler and HB Studiosin New York.In the late 1990’s Suzie Z. moved to London and formed an art collective. Featured on Fashion TV , Suzie Z. worked on art projects that blurred the lines of art, fashion and music and collaborated with the YBA’s and Veruscka on art performance, films and music. She was in the bands Menlo Park , and sang backup for Bill Callahan. Her only dance single, with Acid Punch, Voodoo, reached the dance charts in Europe.
In the 2000’s she started lecturing as a fashion and culture expert, and gained a Master’s Degree as a university lecturer, on art, fashion, ideation and the 1980’s, at such places as Goldsmith’s University, Istituto Marangoni, the AlsoFestival, the WEwork festival, and the Soho House Lectures. In 2019 she began curating at the Victoria and Albert Museum and worked as the Mary QuantLearning Representative, the same year she curated an exhibition at the OpenEye Gallery on Keith Haring, and continues to speak about the exciting EastVillage art scene of the 1980’s , in which she was a first hand participant and expert.
She is an active member of the vibrant Hackney Wick arts scene since 2012, and curator the learning programmes and digital at theHackney Wicked Festival. As well as being an actively exhibiting artist Suzie is back modelling and acting.
