Karen McCaffrey
Karen McCaffrey is an actress, singer and writer. She grew up between the East End of London and Limerick, Ireland. As a young child in the 1970s in Ireland, Karen sang with Tommy Drennan and the Top League. Their single ‘Beautiful Peace’ was number 2 in the Irish charts for many weeks, beaten to the number one spot by Slade’s ‘Merry Xmas Everybody’.
Karen trained at The Webber Douglas Academy of Dramatic Art, now affiliated with The Royal Central School of Speech and Drama. She has since worked extensively onstage and in film.
Karen has toured the UK and Ireland in three No.1 tours of Calendar Girls for David Pugh, working with Lisa Riley, Rula Lenska and Linda Bellingham. Her credits include Amanda Wingfield in Tennessee Williams' The Glass Menagerie, in London and Germany with Triad Theatre Company. Other roles include Prospero in The Tempest (London Theatre Workshop), The Nurse in Romeo and Juliet (Cambridge Shakespeare Festival), and Anne Shankland/Sybil Railton Bell in Terence Rattigan's Separate Tables in Cannes (SET Company).
Karen recently wrote a full length play ‘The View From Here’ which had a rehearsed reading at Actors and Writers London. Previously, she wrote and performed a one woman show called ‘Acting and Me’, plus a short film ‘Unexpected Encounter’ telling the story of when she met Al Pacino. She also performed in a No.1 tour of The Pirates of Penzance and recently put together a performance of Irish songs for the Lewisham Borough of Culture.
She can currently be seen playing the role of Leanne in Alba Rosa, an Indie feature film directed by Bogdan Radu.
Karen’s hobbies include hot Bikram Yoga, swimming and going to the theatre.
